MODEL LEARNING FOR PARENTS

The Situation

The fact is, most parents feel they can’t keep up with their children’s school curriculum enough to help them. And yet, they’re eager to support their learning at home. They’d like to help their children to:

  • learn independently
  • develop their thinking
  • talk about their day’s learning
  • discuss their homework and projects
  • revise for tests and exams

But, naturally enough, pupils resent this pressure to talk about their learning as soon as they get home.

The Solution

This course provides parents with a uniquely direct approach. We manage to by–pass curriculum knowledge and get to the heart of children’s learning. We look at the root cause of children’s problems which is traced directly back to their difficulty in organising thoughts. So that’s where we focus parents’ learning. Parents learn how to help their children to gather, organise and plan their thinking — a process that applies to all subjects.

The Benefits

Parents learn how to:

  • Help their children extend their thinking when researching on their own (Quality), even though they might not have the curriculum knowledge
  • Deal with the emotional side e.g. resilience.
  • Apply a method to help deal with future challenges.
  • Have meaningful and useful conversations with their children about their learning
Pupils will learn how to:
  • Developing their thinking skills
  • Talk through their thinking with an adult
  • Work and learn independently
  • Organising their own thoughts and work
  • Improve literacy through simple effective solutions

Programme options

Options are very flexible. We run parent workshops on their own. Alternatively they can be delivered as part of a full day where we work individually with both parents and pupils, and then bring them together.

We recognise the need for complete flexibility to facilitate parent involvement.
