DEFINE: CLUSTER

What does it do?
A Cluster is an extended Single Bubble that allows you to make and see various connections between elements that relate to a topic. Its chief purpose is to extend and capture initial brainstorming.
- How do you make it?
- Write the name of the topic in the centre bubble
- Write down any associated idea that occurs to you in a bubble and link it to the centre bubble
- Continue this process
- Create new links between these outer bubbles if they are in any way connected. Don’t attempt to do this in any ordered, hierarchical way.
When do you use it?
A Cluster is useful for:
- Catalysing creativity
- Ensuring divergent thinking is taking place
- Capturing the flurry of inventive thinking without stopping the flow due to pressure of organising the ideas
- Supporting learners in sharing and developing their thinking in paired and group situations
- Capturing ideas of a group prior to organizing
